Jim Yim is an investor and entrepreneur based in the Boston area. Jim started his American journey as a foreign student from Hong Kong. Jim paid for his tuition and living expenses by working as a dishwasher, busboy and waiter in restaurants and in factories while attending college. Jim started his entrepreneurial journey while he was in business school; Jim joined Atex, a publishing technology startup co-founded by his mentor, which was acquired by Eastman Kodak.

After running his own company, Opentech, from 1996 to 2001, Jim has been involved in numerous start-ups. His companies include: founding investor and board member of Auditude, an online video technology company acquired by Yahoo and Adobe; Investor of Equal Exchange; a Mass based Fair Trade Company; CEO of RFTune, a Wi-Fi chipset maker merged with E-Mobile. Pre-IPO investor and board advisor of Essexbio, a Chinese biotech company listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange; in 2014, Jim invested in Abpro, a Boston based biotech company; Jim currently serves as CEO of MedtricBiotech, a safe, environmentally friendly and highly antimicrobial technology company.

Jim is on the New England board of Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, an education non-profit. Jim has been serving as a judge at the Rice University Business Plan Competition and has provided seed funding to a number of teams from the competition. Jim is an advisor to Sonikure, a University of Hong Kong medical device start-up.

Jim’s additional experiences include sales, product management and software engineering at DEC and EDS. Jim holds a BS in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and an MBA from Babson College.
